A nice Gus Nevros Catskill Series bamboo fly rod, 7', 3-piece, 2-tip, built for a #4 line. Serial number "EVW90". 3.6 ounces. Lightly used condition. Medium dry fly action. This rod features blonde cane in a spiral node configuration. The wraps are brown main with orange and black edges fore and aft. Intermediates alternate between brown and maroon with 3" intermediates between the guides. Artificial stripping guide, snake guide, and small hoop tip tops. Excellent varnish. Gus was a rodmaker residing on Long Island who had some interesting ideas incorporated into his rod design, one of which is apparent here in the six sided broach used on his wood reel seats so that there was no possibility of the seat rotating. The grip is 4 1/2" including the varnished front cork check of walnut, and is done in a blunt cigar profile. The reel seat is half cork, half varnished walnut with a nickel silver slide band and pocket cap (both oxidized). The slide band has some edgewear to it. The walnut seat is rounded at the bottom and the hex broach has been plugged with brass with the letter "N" engraved and aligned to the wrap flat. The rod is inscribed with the July 1990 manufacture date. The ferrules are Super Z style oxidized black with a bit of edgewear on the casting plane. The ferrules are outfitted with large brass and cork ferrule plugs. The rod bag is of a soft brown cloth with a stiffener and a pocket for the ferrule plugs. The rod is packed in a brushed aluminum tube with the brass top and bottom manufactured by Ron Bensley of the Rodon Rod Company.
