For sale here is a very interesting Hardy Bros. The "Gold Metal" 14' 3/2 two-handed bamboo fly rod. Serial #H880, made in 1955. The rod is in excellent original condition with one exception, the mod female ferrule glue has come loose with age. All sections are full length with light sets in the tips sections. The tip sections were made 1 1/8" shorter than the mid and butt.
The rod features handsome pumpkin colored cane with burgundy silks and full intermediates in an oxblood color. The ferrules are wrapped with fine brass wire to withstand the great pressures the rod was designed for. The rod was also constructed with a steel centre (center) for superior strength. Bright guides. The script remains clean and bold. Agate stripping guide and tip-tops. The two-handed grip measures 24 1/2" from the winding check to the bottom of the fighting butt. The reel seat features a sliding band that has a tightening nut on it for a secure fit. The hard rubber fighting butt remains in excellent condition free of cracking or other defects. The enormous ferrules are size 23/64 30/64! They feature a screw-lock mechanism and include the original ferrule plugs. The rod weighs in at 23.15 oz. or nearly a pound and a half.
