For sale here is a very interesting Hardy Bros. The "Prince Leopold of Belgium" bamboo salmon fly rod. 10' 3/2 8-9wt. Serial #E15555, made in 1942. The rod is in very good original condition. There are a few small chips in the varnish and very minor alligatoring in places. Burgundy silks with full intermediates. Black, gold, red signature wrap in tribute to the Belgian flag. Reversed half wells grip in excellent condition. Aluminum screw lock reel seat with black pyrilin spacer.
Rod features a "bank spike", kept in the reel seat when not in use. The spike is used when resting the rod against something while not fishing. The butt cap screws off, the spike is pulled out and turned around, the butt cap is used to affix the spike in place.
The brass ferrules are spiked and feature an interesting screw-lock mechanism. Ferrule size 10/64 and 14/64. Original ferrule plugs. Agate stripper and tip-tops. The rod weighs 8 1/4 oz. The tips are housed in a brass capped bamboo tube that's been flamed. The bag is a modern Hardy bag but appears to have been custom made to fit the bamboo tube. Replacement black powder coated tube.
