For sale here is a classic Hardy St. George reel - diameter is 3 3/4". Badged for Sam Wells of Eureka, CA. Three-screw latch. Transitional early ivorine handle and un-engageable spare spring and pawl. Most likely from 1922-1924. Great leading on the reel. Patent 24245 noted on outer frame. Pawls and gear teeth still in superb shape. No wobble or end play to speak of. Original smooth brass foot is un-filed. Tension regulator works as intended. Smoky gray agate is free from cracks. Stamped X throughout. Reel weighs 7.4 oz. Reel foot is 2.6" long.
Now for the bad news. There is a hairline crack in the frame. I've seen worse as this one ranks very minor but it's still a crack and therefore the price reflects this. The original ivorine handle is nice but it does not spin freely and needs to be loosened up.
