An H.L. Leonard Tournament bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tips, and built for a #5 or #6. Fast DF action. 4.3 ounces on my scale. The rod has been refinished and the original owner's name is on the rod. It does not appear to have been used since the refinish. The rod shows a lot more swell than the usual Leonard and this gives it a bit more punch in the butt. Mid-1930's manufacture with the pot belly waist ferrules and the patent date on the butt female. The ferrule fit is good. Blonde cane done in a three-up node pattern. The main wraps are black with a red edge on all of the sections. If this rod had an agate stripper it was not replaced when refinished. There is a small clear wrap covering a hook dig on the mid and one on one of the tips. The 5" long cork grip has been replaced and turned down to a medium cigar profile. The slide band seat is flatted butternut. The cap and ring are polished bright. The cap has a bit of corrosion (easy to clean) and the ring is a bit wider than usual. The cap is stamped “The Leonard, H.L. Leonard Rod Co., Makers” and on the reverse "Tournament." The rod comes in the original bag with hang tag and original tube.
