Hoagy Carmichael Model 212 Bamboo Fly Rod 8'6" 2/2 #5/6 [SALE PENDING]

A very nice Hoagy Carmichael Model 212 bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tips, built for a #5 or #6 line (I might prefer it with a #6). It weighs 4.6 ounces on my scale. Serial D-86-2. Hoagy only made three of these 212's in 8'6" length, and confirmed to me that he once fished this one on the River Test. A superb progressive medium action. Excellent very lightly used original condition. The grip has a touch of hand soiling but almost no other signs of use that I could find. The varnish is superb and the guides show almost no wear. "Carmichael-212" and "D-86-2" are lettered on the shaft, the model, serial, and tip number are inked above the male on each tip. Beautiful medium wheatstraw cane done in a spiral node configuration. Dark brown wraps a tthe keeper, ferrules and tip tops. The main wraps are a lighter brown. Carbide stripper with bronze snakes and tip tops. The grip is a 6" and shaped to the characteristic blunt cigar. The reel seat is all-cork with nickel silvercap and ring hardware. The rod packs into tan poplin bag and the original aluminum tube with an aluminum bottom, brass collar, and aluminum screwtop with gray felt in the top. A gorgeous example of Hoagy's craft, this rod deserves pride of place in a serious collection!
