A Hoagy Carmichael two-handed bamboo fly rod, 14', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #11 line. "H. Carmichael", and "1984 - 14'" are inked on the shaft just above the keeper wrap. The rod weighs 23 ounces on my scale. Hoagy made this rod in 1984 from blanks acquired from Harold Sharpe a few years earlier, and then finished the rod out. He relayed to me that he fished this on the Grand Cascapedia and in Scotland and Ireland, so there is some very nice fishing mojo with this rod, which remains in excellent overall condition. Hoagy himself has rewrapped the uppermost guide on the mid, but other than that the rod bears only light cosmetic wear, including some soiling to the grip, and a little brassing to the inner part of the guides. Impregnated cane built in a three up node pattern. Spliced joints which come with wooden protectors. Wrapped in very dark green tipped in red with an agate stripper and oxidized high arch snakes and tip tops. The grip is 23 1/4" long and is all-cork, shaped in the characteristic Garrison/Carmichael style, with a varnished wrap for the front cork check and a blunt cigar profile. The seat hardware is comprised of an aluminum slide band and a nickel silver pocket cap. The bottom grip transitions from cork into a 3/4" aluminum ring and lastly, a big black rubber button. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and a large aluminum Garrison/Carmichael style aluminum tube with a brass collar and aluminum top. A neat rod for anyone who appreciates bamboo and salmon fishing.
