A Jim Schaaf rendition of Garrison's 212 model bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 or #6. "Garrison 212-E", "R-8-3", and "1974" are lettered on the shaft on successive flats. The rod weighs 4.5 ounces on my scale. Authoritative medium fast action. The rod is nice and straight and the ferrules fit perfectly. Lightly used condition. The grip has modest soiling and the portion just under the butt cap pocket has some cork chipping, but otherwise nothing that I'd describe as being more than normal cosmetic wear. Light wheatstraw cane with a randomized node pattern. Super Z ferrules. The rod is wrapped pale yellow with dark brown at the grip, ferrules, and tip tops. The tips have the rod model the serial number and the year of manufacture inked just above the ferrule wraps (though the serial number is erroneously listed as "K-8-3" instead of "R-8-3"). The grip is done in the classic Garrison blunt cigar profile with the tapered front with wraps that serve as the front check and both cork and wraps varnished. The back of the grip tapers down to an all-cork reel seat fitted with an aluminum cap and ring. As noted, the cork area just under pocket cap has some wear from reel feet but looks perfectly serviceable and would be undetected with a reel on it. The rod packs into a tan cloth bag and an aluminum tube with the data sticker affixed to it.
