A nice HL Leonard model 49-6 Hunt Pattern bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 3-piece, 2-tips, built for a #6 line. Weighs 4.3 ounces. Fast DF action. Near mint condition with lawn cast brassing to the inside of the guides and a hint of a ring impression on the curly maple seat spacer. The grip still has the original shrink plastic in place. Serial #81190 dates this to 1981 right around the tail end of the Tom Maxwell period, I suspect just barely past it. The rod still exhibits some of the Maxwell period hallmarks. The reel seat varnish is "caramelized" and the ferrule oxidation is the Maxwell pewter color. 3 up node pattern construction. Plum colored wraps that look dark red against the flamed blank. Perfect varnish. 6" slim cigar grip. The cap and ring seat is oxidized pewter with the roller die stamp "HL Leonard Rod Co, The Rod Maker, Since 1869". As stated, the seat is caramelized varnished curly maple and has some dents from being pressed against the guides during transportation. The ferrule fits are perfect and the rod is factory straight. Original bag and brushed aluminum tube with a brass top collar and bottom.
