For sale here is a Leonard Duracane "Appalachian Trail" bamboo rod, made during Ted Simroe's time with the company. 8' in length, four sections with one tip section for a 4 or 5 weight line. Quite a rare configuration from Leonard. Serial no. 1173. The rod is in excellent overall condition. All sections are full length and straight except for the third section which is 1/2" short. A couple of the wraps are new as the prior ones were fraying. The wraps were replaced by Paul Fischer using the proper original thread type and CP resulting in a great match with the other wraps. Impregnated Duracane finish. Medium-dark tempered cane. Emerald green wraps. Blued guides and bright nickel silver ferrules. Blued ring hook-keeper. Ceramic stripping guide. Sculpted nickel-silver winding check. The cigar grip is slightly soiled and displays light ridging. There is also a small chip in the cork in the bottom where the grip meets the reel seat. Bright nickel silver down-locking reel seat with a varnished butternut spacer. The ferrules are size 8/64, 13/64, and 16/64 with an excellent fit. The rod weighs 4 1/2 oz. The action is swift and crisp. A great all-around medium fast trout rod, wonderful for travel or hiking. Includes original bag and tube with brass fittings.
