For sale here is a very interesting pre-fire H.L. Leonard Catskill-style 8'3" 3/2 5wt bamboo rod. This rod was custom built and as such has no matching Model number in any of the catalogs. The rod is claimed to have been Walt Carpenter's personal rod though this can't be confirmed. The tip sections were made 9" shorter than the other sections. The rod is in excellent restored condition, though it appear to have been restored quite a few years ago. All sections are full length with sets in the mid and both tips.
The rod features mildly tempered cane if a lovely pumpkin color with bright red wraps and full intermediates. Red agate stripping guide and clean agate tip-tops. Blued guides. The petite cigar grip is 4 3/4" in length with a bit of light ridging. The nickel silver reel seat is an early style cap and ring and shows only light wear. The ferrules are size 10/64 and 16/64 with a great fit. The rod weighs 5.20 oz. The action is a swift and authoritative medium-fast dry-fly. Much quicker than most rods of the era. Includes a replacement bag of the same era and no tube.
Don't miss out on this rare and unusual Leonard.
