For sale here is a scarce H.L. Leonard Deluxe Model 703 -- 7' 2/2 4wt bamboo rod. Serial no. 5784. This line of rods was only produced in 1984 and features an impregnated acrylic finish devised by Walt Carpenter that gives a truly lustrous straw colored surface, as well as making the rod very durable. The rod remains in excellent original condition. All sections are full length and straight.
The rod features lemon yellow silks tipped hunter green which was a departure from their more standard designs. Carboloy stripping guide. Ring hook-keeper. The script remains as clean and bold as the day it was written. Handsome swelled butt. Nickel silver check. The cigar grip measures 5" in length with only light soiling. Elegant nickel silver cap and ring reel seat with the traditional butternut spacer. Leonard stamp on the butt cap. The nickel silver ferrules have a terrific fit. The rod weighs in at 3.45 oz. Leonard described the rod in their catalog as offering "a crisp medium action pleasing to most anglers". Includes the original bag with dowel stiffener and tube with brass fittings. Also includes a photocopy of the 1984 catalog listing of the Deluxe Series.
It is quite rare to see a rod from this series come up for sale. Don't miss out!
