For sale here is a rather rare early pre-fire H.L. Leonard Catskill Model 46 bamboo rod - 9' 3/2 for a 4-5 weight line. This pre-patent rod is in excellent+ restored condition. All sections are full length with slight sets in the tips sections.
Straw-colored cane with bright red wraps and full intermediates. The rod lacks a stripping guide, typical for the daintier rods of the time. Blued reverse-twist English-style guides of a smaller size to accommodate a silk line. Bronzed ring hook-keeper. Elegant nickel silver checks. Petite cigar grip 4 1/4" in length with very subtle ridging, it appears the grip has been cleaned. Nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a mortised butternut spacer. There is a bit of light wear to the spacer and butt cap. The bright nickel silver ferrules are size 8/64 and 14/64 with a perfect fit. Indented witness marks. The rod weighs 3.40 oz. The action is a solid medium, buttery smooth and capable of extreme delicacy. Well suited for swinging wet flies, the popular method of the day. The 1924 Mills catalog describes this rod as the all-around light stream work rod and particularly suited for ponds. The rod is without a bag or tube.
Don't miss out on this rare Model 46 ready for the water.
