For sale here is an interesting post-fire H.L. Leonard Model 50 bamboo rod -- 8' 3/2 for a 5 or 6 weight line. The rod is in excellent+ original condition. All sections are full length and straight as well as void of any repairs.
The rod bears all of the characteristics of a "Hunt" rod. Though not quite as dark as the Hunts usually are, it is certainly darker than the typical Leonard. Without a serial number or hangtag, it is difficult to verify.
The rod features moderately tempered cane along with oxidized and black fittings making for a more inconspicuous rod, hallmarks of the "Hunt" rods. Crimson red wraps with jet black tipping. Black and magenta tipping at the male ferrules. There is a darker spot on the butt section ferrule wrap from either a blemish on the cane underneath or a mishap with the varnish/color preserver. In any case, this is only an aesthetic issue and should not cause concern. Handsome slightly swelled butt. Ring hook keeper and oxidized nickel silver winding check. Reverse half wells grip 6" in length with only light soiling, the cork remains very smooth. Up-locking black aluminum reel seat with Walnut spacer. The seat is an almost exact match to the reel seats used on the original pre-fire Hunt rods. The oxidized step-down ferrules have an excellent fit. The rod weighs in at 4.70 oz. The action is a medium-fast dry-fly. The thin forgiving tips along with the authoritative swelled butt give this rod a lovely balance of strength and finesse. Includes the original bag and tube with brass fittings.
Don't miss out on a chance to own this fine rod. It doesn't disappoint.
