For sale here is an H.L. Leonard Model 40 bamboo rod. 8'0" 2/2 5-6wt. Serial #1173. The rod is in excellent restored condition. All sections are full length and straight save a set in one tip. The rod was restored by Leonard sometime in 1988-1989 by Mark Murphy.
The butt section is a bit darker than the tips for some unknown reason. Bright red wraps with crimson tipping at the winding check and male ferrules. Blued guides. One of the tip-tops appears to have been replaced. Ring hook-keeper. The cigar grip 6" in length still has the plastic in place from the restoration. There is some soiling at the nose where the plastic has flared out exposing the cork a bit. Aluminum down-locking reel seat over a varnished butternut spacer. The spacer does show some wear, the butt cap was also glued on a bit crooked though this won't affect the use of the seat. The ferrules are size 14/64 with a great fit. Oddly, one of the male ferrules is incorrect and does not match the others. The rod weighs 4.50 oz. Includes original bag with stiffening dowel and the original tube with brass fittings.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Your shipping estimate will be calculated at checkout and if you have any questions please contact us. Please note the buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties or fees that may levied. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
