For sale here is a pre-fire Leonard Tournament Model 51DF bamboo rod -- 9 feet long. The rod is in very good to excellent condition overall. A few of the snake guides came off when I took the rod of the bag, so I had Mike Clark from South Creek Ltd. re-wrap the guides with original Leonard straw-colored silks. Mike also coated the other wraps with an overcoat of varnish to ensure their integrity for years to come. The original ferrule plugs were basically stuck in the female ferrules and were unable to be removed, I had Mike replace the ferrules with the same exact pre-fire ferrules he had in his stock of shop parts. The original ferrules and ferrule plugs will come with the sale. The rest of the rod remains totally original, including the varnish which shows some aging due to being stored in a humid climate for much of its life. The varnish is not however in need of restoration. All sections are full length and straight. The cork grip had its original paper covering intact and I asked Mike to place a protective layer of plastic on top of it. Nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a butternut insert. Agate stripping guide and agate tip tops as well (the bit of verdigris comes at no extra charge)! Includes original tube and original bag with original hang tag in wonderful condition. The rod weighs 5 oz. Ferrules are size 11/64 and 17/64 and the ferrule fit is excellent. All in all, this is an amazingly preserved pre-fire Leonard! How long has it been since you've seen original paper wrapping on the grip of a rod made in the 1930s-40s?
A steal at this price!
