Leonard Salmon Reel - Julius Vom Hofe

For sale here is a H.L. Leonard raised pillar salmon reel. Usually stamped "H.L. Leonard Patent No. 191813" on the ebonite headplate, the stamping on this particular reel has worn off over time. Julius vom Hofe making these Leonard reels in the early 1900s. German silver construction, including the spool, the reel foot, and the unmistakable Philbrook and Paine handle arm and counterbalance designs. The german silver sliding drag adjustment bar on the back plate is stamped with the drag patent date of Jul 22, 1890. The reel remains in very good condition. The ebonite headplate has a couple of scratches, but no cracks. The tailplate is free of cracks as well. The screw heads are in fine condition. The reel foot has been lightly tapered on one end. Mechanically, the reel operates as intended with a bit of spindle/spool play. The reel measures 3 3/4" in diameter (4 1/4" pillar to pillar) with a 1 3/4" wide spool. The reel weighs 16.85 oz.

We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.
Other Terms
Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
