A beautiful Maxwell Leonard 49-5, a 7'6" 3-piece, 2-tip rod built for a #5 line. This Hunt is marked serial #80142 and is an excellent example of the high quality rods that Leonard produced when Tom and I worked there in the late 1970's and early 1980's, a period during which he decided to bring back the Hunt pattern to Leonard's lineup
. In near mint condition, this rod has only a tiny amount of soiling to grip and brassing to cap and ring. The varnish is characteristically superb and the rod is wrapped in garnet with three windaways at the keeper and ferrules. Slim Cigar grip. Dark stained tiger maple spacer under standard cap-and-ring hardware. The cap, ring, and ferrules have classic "Pewter"oxidation. Tiny crack at wrapped ferrules. This rod is fine tipped with a delightful fast action perfect for tight loops and accurate casts. Typical of the best of the Maxwell period Leonards. Correct bag and brass-capped rod tube.
