For sale here is a lovely rod from McKellip Bros. (Mark Mckellip) - a 7'6" 2/2 5wt bamboo rod. Model no. P101 - based on the Payne 101 in taper as well in aesthetics. The rod is in excellent+ condition. All sections are full length and straight.
The rod features darkly tempered cane with transparent chestnut wraps - black tipping at the winding check. The blank features tight seams and sharp corners. Lightly blued guides. Blued nickel silver check. Classic cigar grip measuring 5 1/2" in length that seamlessly flows into the aluminum cap and ring reel seat over a walnut spacer. "McKellip Brothers" logo is stamped into the butt cap. The Swiss-style ferrules have a perfect fit. The rod weighs in a 3.65 oz. The action is a crisp and swift medium-fast dry-fly. Though the rod will shine fishing dries it certainly isn't limited. At longer distances, a DT4 can be used. Includes the original heavy suede bag and tube with label and fine brass fittings.
Mark McKellip operates out of Bay City, Michigan and is a lifelong student of the rod building craft. His main influences are Lyle Dickerson, Jim Payne, and Paul Young. This certainly shows in the quality, attention to detail, and elegant minimal aesthetics of his rods.
