A very rare Mike Montagne R-Quad bamboo fly rod, 8', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels to me like a #6 (no line weight is listed on the rod, but this is my guess, and I have listed it as such). I suspect that some might prefer it with a #7 as well. This is one of Mike's rectangular quad designs where the dimensional profile is larger in one dimension than the other. The rod has a fast, powerful action. Inked on the butt is Mike's signature along with "3625 884 3021". Excellent, lightly used condition with some soiling to the grip and some minor reel indentations in the cork reel seat, but no other meaningful wear that I could find. The rod is nice and straight and the ferrules seat nicely. The cane is done in a semi-random-ish spiral pattern. The rod is wrapped in red with black tipping at the keeper, ferrules, and tip tops (one tip also has a small band of yellow to distinguish it from the other), while the main wraps are translucent. Triangular shaped hook keeper, with a carbide striper and bronze guides throughout while the tip tops are chrome. Bright ferrules, and the males have no plug in the end. Mike was well known for his unorthodox approach to grip and hardware configuration, and this rod is no exception, with the bottom 1 1/2" of the grip removed on one side, serving as as a kind of flared reel seat spacer, while the top 3" of the grip have a tapered flat on the front and back. The bottom of the seat is an aluminum screwlock. The rod packs into a green cloth bag with a black powder coated aluminum tub with clear anodized fittings. These rods don't come to market very often and they are very interesting rods indeed!
