Tom Moran Bamboo Fly Rod 7' 2/2 #4 with Leather Tube

For sale here is a stunning Tom Moran cane rod in mint condition. 7 feet for a 4 weight line. Two sections with two tips. Oxidized cap and ring over a beautiful maple wood spacer. Bronzed guides. German silver truncated ferrules. Transparent honey wraps with a turn of dark silk on either side of each guide. All sections are full length and straight. Comes with a very fine leather covered aluminum tube and original rod bag. The rod will ship from the UK, so VAT will not be an issue for our European customer base.

Tom made this rod for a friend in 1997 and his story follows:

Myself and an old friend, John C. used to enjoy many a happy hour talking about all "fishy" things and generally putting the world to rights over a few beers in our local pub in the New Forest (England). Our conversation must have been overheard one evening by a very affable character with a beard, glasses and a touch of a Scouse accent. This was the first time we met Tom Moran. Tom introduced himself and asked if he might join us. The 3 of us spent a very convivial evening in conversation and agreed to meet up round Tom's at the weekend.

To be honest I was amazed when I saw the quality of Tom's craftsmanship, at the time I didn't realize that I'd made a friend of one of the best makers of split cane rods in the world. Over the next couple of years the 3 of us enjoyed many happy hours either in the pub, on the river bank, or at Tom's place. Tom was kind enough to make a rod each for me and John.
