For sale here is an impregnated Orvis "Bakelite" 8'6" 3/2 5-6wt bamboo fly rod. Serial #5168. The rod was made in 1947 by John Rosencrantz. The rod is in excellent condition with a few minor issues. All wraps are sound with the varnish over the wraps beginning to show slight cracks. The hook-keeper is missing and there are some light scratches in the blank. All sections are full length with a set in one of the tips, which I will get straightened before shipping.
Chestnut brown wraps over medium dark tempered cane. Almost all of the script on the rod has worn off with the exception of the serial number. Cigar style grip 5 3/4' in length. The cork is somewhat soiled and is lightly ridged in places. Aluminum down-locking reel seat with a walnut spacer. Ferrule sizes 17/64 and 11/64 with a pleasing fit. The rod weighs 4.95 oz. The rod has a swift medium-fast action, much lighter in the hand than one would expect. A terrific all-around rod that would excel on bigger rivers and lakes. Described as a 6wt on the tube but would do best a line size down as with most older Orvis rods. Includes original green bag and tube with label 85% remaining. Don't pass up this classic Orvis rod from the golden age at a great price.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
