A nice EF Payne model 200 bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip, for what feels to me like a #5 or perhaps even a #4. The rod was reconditioned by John Bradford in April 1997 and used sparingly since. All sections are full length and the ferrules fits are tight. The wrap colors are the correct brown with yellow edges and a band of purple at the keeper and male ferrules. The varnish work is superb. As mentioned I would rate this as a slowish #5 or possibly a slightly quicker #4. The stripping guide is a Perfection and the high arch snake guides show little signs of wear. Oxidized step ferrules. The grip is 6" and turned to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap. The seat is a polished aluminum uplocking screwlock with the later stamp "Payne" in cartouche and the "Reg US Pat Off". The wood spacer is a varnished walnut. The bag is original as is the hang tag. The aluminum tube with brass fittings is in great condition and has the Payne data sticker. Bradford also turned a nice set of cork and brass ferrule plugs that are included with this rod as well.
