A great Payne Model 96 bamboo fly rod, 6'6", 2-piece, 2-tip and what feels to me like a #4. Full original condition. The rod weighs a delicate 2.3 ounces. Used but well cared for with very little wear to the inner snake guides. Flamed oven tempered cane, brown main wraps with yellow edges and a band of purple at the keeper and male ferrules. The ferrule retain 98% of their oxidation and the varnish is in very good condition. The ferrule fit is great and the rod is factory straight. The medium cigar grip is 5" long and has a lot of hand soiling (this is strangely incongruent with the light use that the rest of the rod evidences). The reel seat is all cork with a ring and nickel silver pocket cap. All the oxidation on the ring is gone and 50% of the pocket cap. The pocket cap has the late model Payne stamp and the "sold by, Von Lengerke & Antoine, Chicago". The olive rod bag is missing the hangtag. The original rod tube has grey felt in the top but not data sticker. A very rare model in very nice original condition.
