A nice H.S. "Pinky" Gillum bamboo fly rod, 8'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for what feels like a #8 line. Mid-1950s construction. 6.5 ounces. Fast DF action. Serial I-959. Very good condition with the sole exception of a re-wrapped snake guide at the bottom of one tip. There are a few very minor (glancing hit) hook scratches on the butt but nothing down to the cane. The varnish is very good — no sign of softening or bag imprint. The rod sections are straight and the ferrule fits are tight. There is a tiny bit of cosmetic ferrule wrap cracking. Caramel color cane with resorcinol glue. The main wraps are a light brown with black, yellow, and black edges at the keeper and male ferrules. The stripping guide is a large perfection with bronze snakes the rest of the way. The ferrules are super Z and oxidized black. The grip is 7" long and turned to a western profile with a hidden pocket cap for the up-lock screw-lock. The grip has thankfully remained uncleaned. The aluminum up-lock screw-lock is stamped on the nut ("H.S. Gillum, Maker"). The rod comes in a brown poplin bag and an aluminum tube. A very fine example of a Gillum salmon rod.
