For sale here is a very special Rick Robbins bamboo fly rod. Rick informed me that he made this rod specifically for Tom Maxwell. Rick's roots are deep in Catskill-style rod making and in my opinion he has greatly improved upon the action of the great Leonard tapers. This rod is a 7' 3/2 for a 4 weight line. Medium dark heat-tempered cane unlike many of the blonde rods you see from him. Made with resorcinol glue. The rod weighs 3.7 oz. and remains in excellent condition with original bag and tube. Medium fast dry fly action. Elegantly swelled cane above the diminutive 4 1/2" cigar grip. N/S cap and ring down-locking reel seat over what appears to be a cocobolo wood spacer (stunning!). Rick makes all of his hardware, a true master rod maker. Clear caramel wraps with maroon edges. The ferrules are 10/64 and 15/64 and the ferrule fit is excellent. A very stunning rod from a maker whose rods we rarely see on the secondary market. I am very impressed with this rod. You will not be disappointed! If this rod doesn't sell, I'll gladly keep it for myself ;-)
This rod comes from the estate of Charlie Robinson from Pennsylvania, who apprenticed under Tom Maxwell late in Tom's life. We will be selling other rods from the Robinson family as well and you can find a link to themhere.
