For sale here is a stunning Payne Para. Commemorative rod made by R.D. (Bob) Taylor - 7'6" 2/2 for a 4 weight line. Serial no. 1 of 1. The rod remains in excellent+ condition. All sections are full length and straight.
Moderately tempered cane with brown silks and gold tipping. Gold and burgundy tipping at the winding check, and make ferrules. There is a slight bit of discoloration to the ferrule wrap on one of the tips. Slightly blued guides and tip-tops. Agate stripping guide. Elegant slightly swelled butt. Ring hookkeeper and a blued nickel silver winding check. The cigar grip measures 5 1/4" in length with moderate soiling. The cork is free of any ridging. Classic blued nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a mortised cork spacer. The butt cap features, "R.D. TAYLOR MAKER" stamped on the front. There is a bit of very light wear and bluing loss to the bottom rim of the butt cap. The blued step-down ferrules have a perfect fit, nice and snug. Includes original ferrule plug. The action is a smooth medium-fast and can be felt flexing well into the butt. Thanks in part to the swelled butt the rod has a fair bit of reserve power should the need arise. A terrific four-weight rod capable considerable finesse and accurate casts. Weight is a lean 3.15 oz. Includes original bag and tube with brass fittings.
