An excellent Thomas and Thomas "Quad Commemorative" limited edition bamboo fly rod, 7', 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #4 line. This is #4 of 30 total that were originally built in 1991. The rod weighs 3.3 ounces on my scale. Mint, uncast condition. The rod action is closer to dry fly than medium. Superbly executed cosmetics and perfect varnish. The cane is lightly oven tempered with two-opposed node spacing. The main wraps are light tan with red edges and an extra set of tan and red edges at the keeper and male ferrule, the latter of which has black main wraps. Unlike the usual T&T ferrules, these are step ferrules that have been squared to the blank and are oxidized jet black. The stripper is a #10 SRMC carbide and the snake guides are black. The grip is 5 1/2" long and squared to the front cork check and turned to a medium cigar profile. The slide band seat is a perfectly varnished walnut that has been hand-flatted to the cap and ring. The cap and ring are oxidized and the cap is stamped "Thomas and Thomas, Makers". The rod packs into a tan cloth bag with a stiffener and pull tag. Instead of the normal rod tube, this rod comes with an elegant square walnut box with a walnut top attached via a leather strap, befitting the rod's design. The top has a brass plaque riveted to it which is engraved "1991, No 4".
