For sale here is a F.E. Thomas Special Mahogany bamboo rod -- 7'6" length, two sections with two tips, best with a 4wt line in our opinion. Serial no. 9 in bullseye rings on the butt cap, likely made in 1919. The rod is in excellent++ condition, having been masterfully restored by Steve Blake. All sections are full length with very slight and easily mendable sets in the mid and tip sections.
The rod features stunning mahogany stained cane with very dark oxblood wraps and full intermediates. Reverse English-style guides sized for a silk line. Amber colored agate stripping guides. Blued nickel silver winding checks with attached hook keeper. The cigar grip measures 5 1/2" in length with only the slightest of handling marks. Simple blued nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a mortised cedar spacer. The blued ferrules are size 9/64 and 14/64 with an excellent fit. The rod weighs 3.60 oz. The action is medium-fast, not at all a slow wet fly action like similar-vintage rods. Original bag and tube included.
