VFT315
For sale here is an F.E. Thomas Special grade - 8 1/2' with three sections and two tips. Serial no. 7, made in 1917. The rod is in excellent refinished condition. All sections are full length and reasonably straight.
The rod features moderately tempered cane with Chinese red wraps and yellow tipping. Full intermediates throughout in red. Blued replacement guides although the tip-tops, as well as the red agate stripping guide, are original. Aluminum cone winding check with an attached ring hook keeper. The modified full-wells grip measures 6 1/2" in length and is also a replacement. The cork is only lightly soiled. Nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over the original mortised wood spacer. Age has produced a lovely patina on the wood. Although, a coat of resin has been put on the spacer. The butt cap reads, "F.E. Thomas. SPECIAL Bangor ME." The original nickel silver ferrules retain an excellent fit. The rod weighs 4.35 oz. with a smooth medium action. Feels best with a 5-weight line. Includes a replacement bag with stiffening dowel and the original tube with brass fittings.
A wonderful early rod ready for a soft hackle fly and the water.
