For sale here is a gorgeous Thomas & Thomas "Midge" bamboo rod -- 7'6" 2/2 for a 5 weight line. Serial no. 2761 which dates the rod to the late 1970's. The rod is in excellent overall condition. All sections are full length and straight.
The rod features a dark straw-colored varnish finish with transparent honey wraps and chestnut wraps. The winding check is wrapped in honey with brown and black tipping, the male ferrules are chestnut with honey and black tipping, the female is chestnut with a brown tipping. Blued guides. The exquisite Tom Maxwell script remains clean and bold. The rod has two tip sections, one of which is original to the rod and the other a replacement. The replacement tip has a slightly different script than the Maxwell-scripted original tip. This is why there are three dots next to the serial number instead of two dots as is typical. Original tip #2 was probably lost or broken at some point and this replacement tip with three dots was made by T&T. The rod has the typical greatly-swelled butt section. Petite 5 1/4" cigar grip with blued nickel silver checks. The grip is lightly soiled with very slight ridging. Classic and elegant blued nickel silver cap and ring reel seat over a mortised walnut spacer. There is light wear on the rim of the butt cap. The Swiss-style truncated ferrules are size 12/64 with an excellent fit. The rod weighs an even 4 oz. The dry-fly action is on the faster side of medium-fast. Includes the original bag with stiffening dowel and original tube with brass fittings.
