For sale here is a possibly unique Edward Vom Hofe Model salmon fly reel.
Made before it was called the Restigouche model, which was coined circa 1911. In this time period, the model was referred to as the "Celebrated Salmon and Grilse Click Reel". The reel is in very good condition with no cracks in the hard rubber. This reel carries the Sep 2, 1879 patent on the drag adjustment knob under the handle arm (without the typical EVH stamping), as well as the Jan 23, 1883 patent mark for the sliding click drag. The placement of the latter patent info in the ebonite surrounding the on/off switch has not been seen by my eyes before. German silver safety bands and one double roller bar in the rings-up position. The spool is also German silver and spins in the same direction as the handle. The reel has a good click and fully functional adjustable pin-in detent drag under the handle arm. The leather drag pads are loose and could be replaced easily or just re-attached as is. Full-length and unfiled offset foot with no markings.
A truly remarkable early example for the Vom Hofe fisherman / collector!
