For sale here is a scarce and very early Edward Vom Hofe Model 355 fly reel - Size 3 1/2 (2 3/8" diameter). Late 19th century reel owing to the lack of model number on the reel foot (instituted at the turn of the century), or serial number (instituted in 1908). This model was later dubbed the "Peerless" in 1911; before it was known as the "Celebrated Trout and Bass Fly Reel". The screw in the center of the counterbalance was also a very early feature on EVH reels and I've only seen a couple other Model 355 reels with this feature. German silver construction, including the foot and spool. The hard rubber side plates are in excellent original condition with no cracks. There are also no dings to the nickel silver bands and the reel foot remains full-length. Mechanically the reel remains in excellent condition with a good click and strong enough spring to prevent spool overrun. The oil cap has the 1883 patent stamp. The reel has not been polished or cleaned in any way, although it would shine up wonderfully if the new owner wishes. One of the foot screws on the backplate appears to have a different patina than the others, likely a replacement but a proper one. All of the other screws remain in excellent condition.
The reel comes with its original Edward Vom Hofe stamped leather reel case with a buckle many of us have never seen before. The reel case is in excellent original condition as well.
Don't miss out on this very historic reel -- it needs to go fishing again!
