A superb Walt Carpenter "Browntone" bamboo fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. Serial #88576. Weighs 3.9 ounces. Mint, untouched condition with the paper and gummed strips still on the grip. Built in 1988 in Chester, NY, this is a real "wow" rod and a pleasure for me to describe something this nice. Medium action. Flamed medium brown cane done in a three up node pattern with a superb varnish coat. Brown main wraps with black edges and edges of yellow and maroon at the keeper and male ferrules. High arch HSS snake guides. The grip is 5 1/2" long and shaped to a medium cigar profile. The reel seat is cork with a 1" long varnished burl walnut spacer and an oxidized ring and pocket cap. The pocket cap is stamped "WE Carpenter, Maker" in a cartouche. The rod comes packed in a tan cloth bag and a brushed aluminum tube with brass fittings and Walt's data sticker on the tube. This is an opportunity to acquire a rod by one of America's best rodmakers at the height of his craft. A beautiful rod.
