For sale here, we have an interesting rod from Austrailian rod maker William Southam "The Ringwood" 9' 2/2 5-6wt bamboo rod with a marked weight of 5 1/2 oz. Made in the 1950's in Sydney, the rod remains in excellent condition. The rod is mostly original with one exception, of one of the tips has been re-wrapped and has also had the ferrule replaced though it is very similar to the original Super-Z ferrules. All sections are full length and straight, with light sets in the tips.
The rod features handsomely tempered cane with gold wraps with orange tipping at the winding check and signature wrap. Crimson agate stripping guide. The script remains clean and bold. Ring hook keeper. Sculpted aluminum winding check. Classic full wells grip 6 1/4" in length with moderately soiling with a dent towards the bottom and a spot used for hook keeping. Bright aluminum down-locking reel seat over a bakelite spacer. The nickel silver butt cap features a makers stamp reading, "WM SOUTHAM RODMAKER SYDNEY". The Super-Z brand ferrules are size 16/64 with a nice and tight fit as it should be. The rod weighs 5.50 on the dot. The rod has an authoritative and smooth medium-fast action equally capable of finesse as well as strength and power. A terrific rod for far and fine casting for larger rivers or lakes well suited for a DT5 or a WF6 line. Includes the original bag with label attached and a replacement tube.
