For sale here is an interesting Paul H. Young 7'6" 2/2 4-5wt bamboo rod. Made in 1951 and possibly an early version of the Martha Marie. The rod is in excellent original condition with one exception; one of the tips has had the ferrule re-set and re-wrapped. All sections are full length and straight.
The rod features beautiful flame-tempered cane with bronze wraps. Blued hardware throughout. The script, in Paul Young's hand, remains as clean and bold as the day it was written. It reads,
Robert Parnall Oct. '51
7 1/2' - 3.32 oz. H.E.H. Bamboo wt. 2.17 oz.
Fer. 13/64 Tip Tops 4/64
The modified full wells grip, similar to an E.C. Powell-style, measures 6 3/8" and is ridged in places. Cap and ring reel seat over a mortised cork spacer - nickel silver butt cap features the PHY maker stamp. The Pernack step-down ferrules have a perfect fit, nice and snug. The rod weighs in at 3.30 oz. and is nicely balance in the hand. The action is a beautiful medium-fast dry-fly. The butt provides plenty of backbone and power while the thin tips allow for finesse and great tippet protection. Casts a 4wt nicely and a 5wt closer in. A near perfect dry-fly rod for your local stream. Includes the original bag and replacement vintage tube.
Don't miss out on this unique Paul H. Young rod, you won't be disappointed.
