For sale here is a Paul H. Young 8' Custom Special bamboo fly rod. Two sections with two tips for a 5 weight line. This is the "medium" model of the 8' Special grade, made wholly by Paul Young himself, not from blanks from Heddon, Edwards or anyone else. The rod is in very good+ condition though it does show some wear from age and honest fishing use. The middle guide on the butt section is beginning to come unraveled and needs attention, the winding check wrap is also beginning to fray. One of the tips is down 3" and has been re-wrapped at the tip-top with incorrect silk. The rest of the rod appears to be all original and is straight. Lightly flame tempered cane with gold wraps and gold tipping in spiral pattern. The same spiral wraps at the winding check and signature wrap withSpecial stamped in between. Gray wraps at the ferrules. Blued guides and ferrules, though the bluing shows some wear. Cigar grip is in excellent shape with no ridging or gouges. Black aluminum down-locking reel seat with a cork spacer. "Paul H. Young Co. Detroit - Mich." stamp appears on the butt cap. The ferrules are size 13/64, the fit is nice and tight as it should be. The action is a very nice medium-fast. Comes with replacement bag and Champion style tube. Rod weighs 3 7/8 oz.
Don't regret picking up this late 40's Special rod and in a weight and length that make it just about perfect for all trout situations, not to mention it is from one of the greatest makers of all time.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Your shipping estimate will be calculated at checkout and if you have any questions please contact us. Please note the buyers are responsible for any applicable import duties or fees that may levied. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
