For sale here is a Paul H. Young SPECIAL DELUXE - 9'6 3/3 7-8wt bamboo rod. The rod is in excellent original condition. The "Deluxe" version of the late 1940s Special model had the owner's name hand-inked by Paul on the butt section. The rod features three differently sized tips, one being marked "Bass Bug"in Paul's writing. All sections are full length and straight.
The rod features lightly flame-tempered cane with bronze colored wraps and oxidized guides. The script, in Paul's handwriting remains clean and bold. The original owner's name, Keith Van Kirk, is hand-inked on one flat, written on the next flat 9 1/2' 6.85 oz. and GBG Line on the next flat. GBG is equivalent to an 8 weight line. The Special designation has been stamped on the butt. The full wells grip measures 7" in length with moderate soiling though the cork remains very smooth. Oxidized aluminum down-locking reel seat over a wood spacer with a nickel silver butt cap with the expected PHY Detroit stamp. The butt cap will accept a fighting butt though one is not included. Bob Summers can make one if the buyer wishes. The ferrules are size 12/64 and 19/64 with a great fit. The rod weighs 6.85 oz. or 6.90 oz. with the Bass Bug tip. The action is medium-fast and the taper is definitely parabolic. Original bag and Champion tube.

All items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days. Refunds will be either administered by providing a check or, when possible, by canceling a credit card purchase.
Please note that any international customs duties (such as VAT, etc.) are the responsibility of the buyer. Massachusetts residents must pay a 6.25% sales tax on all purchases.
