For sale here is a beautiful Paul H. Young "Bob Doerr" Model -- 9' 2/2 7-8wt bamboo rod. Made in May of 1955. As with many of Paul Young's rods, this one was made with a "wet" and "dry" tip. The rod is in excellent original condition with a few exceptions. In 2016 Bob Summers replaced the grip and also gave it a light varnish touch up. All sections are full length and straight.
Classic Paul Young mottle-flamed cane with jet black wraps. The dry tip features red tipping at the ferrule. The script, in Pauls handwriting, remains clean and bold. Wet and Dry are written on the tips to distinguish them from one another. Garrison-style hook keeper. The modified full wells grip is 7" in length and features two thumb indentations to accommodate different grips. Aluminum down-locking reel seat over a cork spacer. The nickel silver butt cap features the "PAUL H. YOUNG CO. DETROIT -- MICH." stamp. JT has been lightly carved in the bottom of the butt cap. The ferrules are size 17/64 with an excellent fit. The rod weighs 6.10 oz. with the wet tip, and 6.05 oz. with the dry tip. The rod has a medium-fast parabolic action with both tips, a bit more full flexing with the wet tip. Best with a WF7 line overall. Comes with original tube and bag.
This rod model was named after the famous Boston Red Sox infielder, coach, and eventual member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Don't miss out on this great opportunity to acquire another very hard-to-find model from the legendary Michigan rodmaker!
There were less than 30 "Bob Doerr" models ever made and I'm guessing this may rank near the top of the heap as far as condition goes.
