For sale here is a fine Paul H. Young "Midge" bamboo fly rod. 6'3" with two sections and two tips for a four weight line. Serial no. 4414 made in 1968 by Bob Summers. The rod is in excellent condition. All sections are full length and straight. Darkly mottle-flamed cane with bronze colored wraps. Oxidized guides. The script, in Summers' hand, remains clean and bold. It reads, "Midge 6'3" 1 3/4 oz." on one flat, with a "#4" below it, "A Paul H. Young Co. Rod" on another flat, and "J.G. Paules, Jr." on one flat. The PHY rod ledger confirms that this is the original person the rod was made for. Mr. Summers has since applied a very light protective overcoat of varnish to the cane and wraps. Petite cigar grip 5 1/4" in length with very light soiling. Dual black aluminum ring reel seat over a mortised cork spacer. Size 11/64 Super-Z ferrules with a perfect fit. The rod's actual weight is 2.10 oz. The action is parabolic and on the fast side of medium-fast. The original satin-like rod bag is in perfect condition, a rarity in itself as usually these satin bags deteriorated quite noticeably with moderate use and age. The original Champion-style tube is also in great condition.
