Offered here is a very special and unique Paul Young rod. This Parabolic 17 has features that are very rarely encountered on Young rods. The rod was built in 1950 for Philo Wright, a longtime and loyal Young customer. 1950 is an early date for parabolic models. This Para 17 was originally built as one rod in a braced set along with a Para 15. Rod is wrapped in Chinese red silks with very elaborate spiral tipping throughout. This rod is unique in having both wet and dry tips, a feature that is a hallmark of the Para 15, but not often encountered on other parabolic rods. The dry tip casts well with a 6 line and the wet with a 6, 7 or 8. Wonderful casting rod. The grip has a thumb rest and only very minor ridges. Typical down locking reel seat left bright. Blued step down ferrules fit perfectly. Bomber conduit tube. Rod is without flaw and original with the exception of one tiptop reset by Bob Summers sometime in the past. Marked "Philo D. Wright / Paul H. Young - "Parabolic" / 8'-6" 5.36oz. 17F" on three adjoining flats. This rod was inked in Martha Marie Young's hand.....another very special feature.
This rod is a wonderful fishing rod and would be a star in any collection.
