For sale here is a Paul H. Young "Parabolic 18" bamboo rod. Nine feet in length with two sections and two tips. Made in 1950. The rod is in excellent+ original condition with the exception of one ferrule being re-wrapped by Bob Summers. All sections are full length and straight.
Beautifully flamed cane with copper/golden colored wraps. Bright guides, blued ferrules. The script, in Paul's handwriting, remains clean and bold free of any defects. It reads:
First flat: Chas. A. Betz. June 1950
Second flat: "Parabolic 18" - 9' - 5.65 oz. G.A.F. (made for an WF9 line)
Third flat: Bamboo wt. 4.51 oz.
The modified full wells grip is 6 3/8" in length with very minor ridging. Blued nickel silver down-locking reel seat over a mortised cork spacer. PHY maker stamp on the butt cap. The step-down ferrules are size 18/64 with a great fit. The rod weighs 5.70 oz. The action is a very powerful medium-fast that feels surprisingly light in the hand. This rod is a cannon. According to Mr. Summers, Paul Young designed the Para 18 for fishing in the Florida keys with Ted Williams.
