For sale here is a Paul H. Young Perfectionist bamboo fly rod -- 7 1/2 4-5wt. Serial #4114, made in December 1963 by Bob Summers. The rod is in excellent+ condition. All sections are full length and straight. Mr. Summers has since partially restored the rod and replaced the grip. No repairs have been made to the cane.
The rod features the signature PHY mottle-flamed look that appeals to so many. The deep golden/copper wraps blend very well. Blued hardware throughout. The script remains clean and bold. It reads, First flat: "Donald L. Shope" Second flat: A Paul H. Young Co. Rod Third flat: Perfectionist 7'6" 2 3/4 oz.Fourth Flat: Dec. 1963.With the exception of the original owner's name on the first flat, all of the script is in Bob Summers' handwriting.
Garrison style hook keeper. Full wells grip 6" in length with only lightly soiled and quite smooth cork. Black aluminum dual sliding band reel seat with a mortised cork spacer. The step-down ferrules have a nice and tight fit. The action is medium-fast with of course the well-known parabolic taper. The rod weighs 2.95 oz. Includes the original satin bag showing only light wear as well as the original tube.

- We ship at cost to the buyer and in the majority of cases do so via UPS with full insurance and signature. There are cheaper options but our experience has been that you get what you pay for and that it's not worth taking risks when shipping what are often one-of-a-kind items. Due to the importance of packing items carefully please allow up to two weeks for arrival (depending on how busy we are) though we certainly do our best to get items to you as expeditiously as possible.

- Unless otherwise noted, all items come with a 3-day inspection period during which they can be returned to us for a full refund (provided that they are in the same condition in which they left our shop). Return shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If an item is returned, we will issue a refund within 10 days upon receipt.
