For sale here is a Paul H. Young "Texan" -- 8'6" 2/2 6-7wt bamboo rod. Paul Young made the blanks and sold them along with the appropriate hardware and thread to Don West in 1950, who finished out the rod. Excellent+ condition. The rod was masterfully restored by Bob Summers in 2012. All sections are full length and straight, although the tip marked "Trout W.S." is 1/4" shorter than the other tip section.
Lightly flame-tempered cane with transparent caramel wraps. Blued guides. The rod features the original Don West script as well as more recent handwriting from Summers. One tip is marked, "#15 Trout W.S." in West's handwriting. Garrison-style hook keeper. The Garrison/Ritz-style grip measures 7 1/4" in length with only the lightest of handling marks. The cork was likely replaced during the restoration. Bright aluminum cap and ring reel seat over a mortised cork spacer. The butt cap features the PHY maker stamp. The blued ferrules are size 15/64 with an excellent fit. The rod weighs 4.65 oz. with both tips. The action is medium-fast best suited for a DT6 line in my opinion. An absolute cannon! Includes what may be an original PHY bag and a replacement tube.
A rare opportunity to pick up a "Texan", a very elusive model made by Paul H. Young and one of the best tapers in the opinions of many PHY collectors.
