A nice Jim Hidy bamboo fly rod, 8’6”, 3-piece, 3-tip, and built for a #5 or #6 line. Hollow-built construction. Serial #W25963H-3. The rod weighs 4.9 ounces on my scale. The current owner tells me that the additional third tip was made for use with a slightly heavier #7 line. Used condition, with some grip soiling, and a scratch and micro-chip low down on one tip. No ferrule wrap cracks yet. The cane is blond and done with a three-up node pattern. Nice varnish. The main wraps are a light honey matching the blank color with black edges at the keeper and ferrules. Wrapped brown at the ferrules, and each tip has a different color at the tip top. The truncated swiss ferrules are oxidized. The butt has an agate stripper and black nickel snake guides. The grip is 6 1/4" long and done in a modified full Wells profile. The cap and ring seat features a nicely turned and knurled nickel silver hardware that has been oxidized. The spacer is a handsome piece varnished, mortised, quartersawn Walnut. The rod packs into a dark olive cloth bag has pockets for all three tips and the mid and butt. The aluminum tube has Hidy's shop-made brass hardware.
